Motivation: This study, titled- sustainable waste management in Owerri, Imo State, Nigeria, is motivated by the imperative to address critical environmental, social, and economic challenges arising from inadequate waste disposal practices in the region.
Research Method: This research employs a quantitative research design, involving the distribution of 50 questionnaires for data collection. The collected data is then analyzed using statistical methods to explore patterns and correlations within the dataset.
Findings: The findings highlight a pressing issue – the prevalent and problematic open dumping method of waste disposal in Owerri, Imo State, leading to adverse health impacts on the community due to pollution. Key contributors to these challenges include a lack of facilities, unfavorable government policies, and insufficient collection frequency.
Originality: By providing empirical insights into the specific dynamics of sustainable waste management practices in Owerri, Imo State, this study contributes to the existing body of knowledge. It conducts a quantitative investigation of these processes, enriching our understanding of the unique factors influencing waste management in the region.
